Dreams Begin & The Appalachian Trail
Beginning my dream to complete the Appalachian Trail

Yesterday, I set out on a perilous and ambitious endeavor: to start hiking the Appalachian Trail.
My fifteen-year-old oldest daughter and I traveled 350 miles by bicycle from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC, in 2017. One of my favorite parts of our journey was visiting the town of Harper’s Ferry WV and meeting tons of hikers passing through on the Appalachian Trail. Yes, I added hiking the AT to my list of dream goals that day.
Unfortunately, dropping off the grid for 6+ months to hike 2,190+ miles is not an option, but I can begin…one step at a time. The proverb “How do you eat a whale?” is well known. “One bite at a time.” So yesterday I took my first bite, hiking a 9.05-mile segment of the AT near Boiling Springs, PA. Pieces of it were technical and quite challenging, but I loved every minute of it. What makes it most significant (truly a miracle) is that my husband was able to join me.
This is a wonderful time of year to think about your goals. To check in with where you are and where you are going. I use OKR’s for both business and personal and it’s amazing to see what you can achieve when you break your objectives into key results (bite size pieces).
Whether you want to hike the Appalachian Trail, grow your business, further your education, or whatever your goals may be, it’s time to stop dreaming and take that first bite. Begin your dream now.
